Description

Chiang Mai is a city in the mountainous north of Thailand. It was founded in 1296 and was the capital of the independent kingdom of Lan Na until 1558. In the old town there are remains of walls and moats from its time as a cultural and religious center. There are also hundreds of ornate Buddhist temples here, including the 14th century Wat Phra Singh and the 15th century Wat Chedi Luang, which is decorated with carved snakes.
