Nguyen Van Binh Book Street – Culture, Calm, and Daily Life in Ho Chi Minh City
Description
In the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, just beside the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office, lies one of the city’s most peaceful places — the Nguyen Van Binh Book Street.
This narrow pedestrian lane is lined with independent bookshops, cafés, and reading corners shaded by tall trees. It’s a quiet contrast to the chaotic traffic of Saigon, where students, families, and travelers stop to browse, read, or simply enjoy a coffee surrounded by books.
For me as a photographer, Book Street represents a different side of Vietnam — calm, intellectual, and full of character. I wanted to capture those small moments: a child reading in the sun, a bookseller arranging covers, and friends discussing literature at a street café.
Photographed with my Sony Alpha 7 IV (ILCE-7M4) and Sony FE 24–70 mm f/2.8 GM II, I focused on the soft daylight, vibrant colors, and street details that make this place so unique.
These images reflect the cultural soul of Saigon — a city where tradition meets creativity, and even in the middle of urban noise, there’s always room for stories, pages, and peace.
