Temple of the Golden Mountain
The Buddhist temple of Wat Phra That Doi Kham is often referred to as Wat Doi Kham or the Golden Temple. The name literally means 'Temple of the Golden Mountain'.
The Golden Temple sits on top of Doi Kham hill in Chiang Mai province, surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery on the edge of Doi Suthep National Park. This ancient temple has a history of more than 1,300 years. It was probably built in 1230 (687 AD) to house relics of the Buddha. The main attraction is a 17 metre high golden Buddha that can be seen from afar.
The original name of the temple was Suwannabanpot Temple.
